NAVSEA contracts for sonar support

MIDDLETOWN, R.I., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted BAE Systems to provide submarines and other ships with sonar software engineering and support services.

BAE was awarded the deal from the Rhode Island-based Naval Undersea Warfare Center as part of the SeaPort-enhance contract vehicle. Under the $21 million award, BAE will provide operational systems and sonar software support.

BAE will be expected to develop and maintain the software technologies along with providing engineering services and other requirements for submarines and ships.

"Our employees have supported the Navy in Rhode Island for more than 30 years, and this continues the work we've long provided to Naval Undersea Warfare Center and the warfighter," Ian Rankin, BAE Systems Technology Solutions and Services vice president of strategic programs, said in a statement.
