ATK to deliver Scalable Plate Carriers

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted Alliant Techsystems to deliver vests that help relieve weight stress for soldiers during operations.

U.S. company ATK says its Eagle Industries subsidiary was awarded the $20 million order. Under the deal, ATK will deliver its Scalable Plate Carriers and associated components to the Marines.

Scalable Plate Carriers, which can be adjusted to match changing mission requirements, are designed to relieve heat and weight stress caused by the loads that soldiers carry in combat environments while also providing ballistic protections.

"ATK is working with the U.S. Marine Corps to provide mission-critical solutions for the courageous men and women who defend our freedom," Mark DeYoung, ATK senior vice president and armament systems president, said in a statement.

"We are constantly improving our existing products by developing new and innovative technologies, maintaining our quality standards, and providing the best value to military and law enforcement professionals around the world."
