ShotSpotter says GLS tech saving lives

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- ShotSpotter says its gunshot detection system deployed in 45 U.S. cities and counties has helped save more than 50 lives in the first half of 2009.

U.S. company ShotSpotter recently released data accumulated from its GLS technology across the United States. The company says its GLS system, designed to detect and locate gunshot incidents in real-time for emergency responder authorities, has helped save 57 gunshot victims since January.

Company officials say the 57 gunshot victims figure more than doubles 24 victims aided in the first half of 2008.

"When seconds mean lives, having access to real-time, comprehensive incident and location data is critical," James Beldock, ShotSpotter president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
