LINTHICUM, Md., July 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Northrop Grumman to provide concept studies for the next-generation multi-mission Air and Missile Defense Radar.
U.S. company Northrop Grumman announced it received a contract from the Navy to provide analysis of the Air and Missile Defense Radar system and conduct concept studies supporting the development of the next-generation radar.
The AMDR technology, being designed to support the Navy's CG(X) and Future Surface Combatant platforms, is part of an effort to provide naval vessels with the ability to track and detect ballistic missiles threats.
"Northrop Grumman's unique approach on AMDR results from applying our proven active electronic scanned array technology developed for airborne and surface based platforms, as well as recent advancements demonstrated on a large S-Band aperture and the Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar program," Steve McCoy, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems sector Advanced Concepts vice president, said in a statement.
