Smiths Detection, PSI to demo AIRIS

EDGEWOOD, Md., July 7 (UPI) -- Smiths Detection will participate in a U.S. military technology demonstration with its partner Physical Sciences Inc. showcasing a new threat detection system.

U.S. company Smiths Detection together with PSI announced plans to demonstrate their Adaptive InfraRed Imaging System, or AIRIS, prototype at the Army's Dugway Proving Ground technology testing facility in Utah.

The AIRIS prototype is designed to detect, identify and track chemical material threats from long distances. Smiths Detection and PSI announced they will showcase the prototype technology as part of the U.S. military's Warfighter Operational Demonstration.

"It is a pleasure to be working with the world-class engineers at Smiths Detection, whose proven record in chemical detection coupled with our expertise in optical detection methods and advanced algorithms is making this standoff chemical detection technology a reality," David Green, PSI chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"We look forward to seeing this technology implemented in a variety of applications, including vehicles."
