Honeywell gets engine order from Reapers

MORRISTOWN, N.J., June 15 (UPI) -- A U.S. Air Force plan to purchase MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aircraft vehicles will result in new engine orders for Honeywell.

U.S. company Honeywell says it will supply more than $400 million worth of its TPE331-10 engines following a major MQ-9 Reaper order by the Air Force. Officials say the Air Force announced plans to procure 319 of the MQ-9 Reaper UAV technology.

Honeywell's TPE331-10 engine powers the MQ-9 Reaper UAV, which has increasingly become a critical surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft for Air Force operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The Honeywell TPE331-10 engine delivers the power combined with low fuel consumption the Reaper needs to complete its missions associated with long-range, long-loiter and heavy-hauling capability," Garrett Mikita, Honeywell Aerospace defense and space president, said in a statement.

"Honeywell has been integrally involved in equipping Unmanned Air Vehicles across several programs since their inception, including the Air Force Predator and Reaper."
