ICx launches palm-size detection tech

WASHINGTON , June 9 (UPI) -- U.S. company ICx Technologies announced the launch of its new spectroscopy threat detection technology that is small enough to fit in a person's palm.

ICx has released its Fido Verdict to help military and law enforcement officials identify explosives and other illicit threats. The palm-size device was developed after ICx researchers were able to miniaturize Raman-based spectroscopy instruments.

Officials say with the smaller size, the Verdict offers troops or security authorities in the field a more portable technology to identify threats.

According to a news release, Verdict is an "easy-to-use and effective tool for use by armed forces combating improvise explosive devices, as well as for law enforcement as they fight illegal drugs."
