The WNaN program is part of an effort to provide soldiers the ability to communicate at all operational levels on any deployed device.

"These are the kinds of technologies that the warfighter needs that have not been seriously deployed in the past under any other program." Jason Redi, BBN Technologies WNaN principal investigator, said in a statement.
