Coast Guard modifies Todd Pacific deal

SEATTLE, May 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard has modified a contract with Todd Shipyards for the company to provide maintenance services on the Icebreaker Polar Sea (WAGB-11).

U.S. company Todd Shipyards says its Pacific Shipyards subsidiary was awarded the contract modification. Under the approximately $5.5 million deal, Todd Pacific will perform repairs and alterations on the Coast Guard's Polar Sea (WAGB-11) heavy icebreaker vessel.

Officials say the new contract modifies a previous deal for the vessel's Planned Maintenance Availability by the Coast Guard for Icebreakers stationed in Seattle.

According to a news release, the contract modification "provides for the alteration and repair of ship's systems, engines and shipboard equipment … (and) the work will be accomplished at Todd Pacific's shipyard in Seattle beginning immediately."
