Marines contract for Saab training system

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted Saab for the delivery of its training-system technologies to support ongoing operational requirements.

Sweden-based Saab was awarded approximately $29 million from the Marine Corps if all options are exercised. Under the deal, Saab will produce training systems that will expand on the number of units already deployed by the Marine Corps.

Officials said the Saab training technologies are also used by European armed forces in addition to the U.S. Army and Navy SEALs.

"This will significantly expand the current base of training systems already fielded by Saab for the U.S. Marine Corps," Lars Borgwing, Saab Training USA president, said in a statement.
