Harris demos interoperable radio tech

LAS VEGAS, March 20 (UPI) -- U.S. company Harris Corp. will conclude demonstrations of its new interoperable public-safety radio communication technology Friday.

Harris participated in the three-day International Wireless Communication Expo that ends Friday in Las Vegas. During the conference, Harris conducted live demonstrations of its new Unity XG-100 full-spectrum radio communication technology.

The Unity XG-100, capable of direct communications over multiple public-safety frequency bands, is the first device in what officials said would be a family of radios. The Unity XG-100 is part of an effort to eliminate the need for emergency-response personnel to carry multiple radios out in the field.

"The demonstration of the Unity XG-100 highlights the power of multiband communications, a technology that Harris has pioneered for both military and public-safety customers," George Helm, general manager of Harris Radio Frequency Communications' public safety and government business, said in a statement.
