M Cubed recognized for armor inserts

TRUMBULL, Conn., March 11 (UPI) -- M Cubed Technologies has been recognized by the U.S. Army for its development of ceramic armor technologies used in the Iraq and Afghanistan combat theaters.

The Army presented a Small Business Innovation Research Success Story Award to U.S. company M Cubed Technologies for the development of ceramic plates that increase the ballistic-protection capabilities of the Interceptor Body Armor System worn by soldiers in combat.

The M Cubed Technologies ceramic armor plates, developed and commercialized under the Army SBIR program, are capable of keeping a soldier safe from armor-piercing rifle attacks.

"The vest alone can only defeat fragments and handgun munitions. With the plates, armor-piercing rifle rounds are defeated," according to a press release.

Officials said M Cubed is currently working on a next-generation armor technology that addresses concerns about weight.
