ORLANDO, Fla., March 2 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin announced the launch of a new exoskeleton technology designed to provide a soldier with additional strength.
Lockheed Martin signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Berkeley Bionics to unveil a robotic exoskeleton called the Human Universal Load Carrier. The exoskeleton was developed to address future mobility and sustainment needs for the military.
Officials say HULC provides a soldier with additional strength and endurance to carry loads of up to 200 pounds, without putting much stress on the body, in a move to advance ground operations.
"With our enhancements to the HULC system, soldiers will be able to carry loads up to 200 pounds with minimal effort," Rich Russell, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control director of sensors, data links and advanced programs, said in a statement.
"Lockheed Martin is developing an entire line of ground soldier technologies that will improve war fighters' ability to effectively complete their missions."
