Coast Guard awards icebreaker deal

SEATTLE, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded Todd Pacific Shipyards Corp. a follow-on contract to continue maintenance on Polar Class icebreakers.

Todd Pacific Shipyards, based in Seattle, was awarded a $29 million, five-year contract if all options are exercised.

As part of the deal, Todd Pacific Shipyards will continue to provide Polar Class icebreakers with maintenance services. The contract includes options to support the Coast Guard's Polar Star WAGB-10 and Polar Sea WAGB-11.

The maintenance also includes "availability planning and generalized ship maintenance, and repairs as needed, with emphasis on propulsion and deck machinery work," the company said in a release.
