MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted Alion Science and Technology to support counter-improvised explosive device training initiatives.
U.S. company Alion was awarded the contract from the Army Joint Training Counter-IED Operations Integration Center. Under the $1.1 million contract, Alion will support the JTCOIC with counter-IED simulation tools.
The JTCOIC was established to develop best practices for soldiers in combat zones to more effectively identify and respond to IED threats. Alion says it will work with subcontractor BAE Systems to develop training simulations of IED events for the Army.
"The goal of this program is to give deploying soldiers a realistic view of the current situation in the field," Dick Brooks, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Distributed Simulation Group, said in a statement.
"The videos provide accurate re-creations of the enemy's most recent tactics as well as how our forces responded, which can benefit both soldiers and commanders."
