Officials say the new technology, called ST-694 GlobalTag, combines Numerex's machine-to-machine network services and Savi's automatic identification technology service. The ST-694 will offer defense and homeland security authorities, among others, a continuous asset tracking capability with visibility even while in transit, ensuring that sensitive cargo remains secure.

"Savi provides a leading-edge technology behind the world's largest radio frequency identification network in place today," Mike Marett, Numerex chief operating officer, said in a statement.

"We believe that this powerful combination of expertise and automated technologies will advance supply-chain monitoring and management capabilities from origin to final destination, resulting in higher levels of value for our customers."
