Army places large order for Beretta 92FS

ACCOKEEK, Md., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has award Beretta U.S.A. Corp. a contract for the delivery of the company's Beretta Model 92FS pistols.

Maryland-based Beretta says the Army contract, worth $220 million, is for 450,000 of its 92FS pistols. The order, the largest military contract for the company since World War II, will go to support Army operations.

Company officials say 20,000 92FS pistols, as part of the order, will be issued to Iraqi military forces to support ongoing security operations.

"We are honored to see the quality and performance of the Beretta Model 92FS pistol continue to be acknowledged in this dramatic way," Cav. Ugo Gussalli, Beretta president, said in a statement.

"It is clear that the Beretta 9 millimeter pistol still sets the standard for military users throughout the world."
