Raytheon Excalibur makes Army list

TUCSON, July 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has added Raytheon Co.'s Excalibur artillery technology to a list of Top 10 inventions of the year for 2007.

Raytheon officials say their Excalibur global position system-guided artillery projectile provides soldiers with the ability to hit exact targets from long ranges with 155 millimeter munitions.

The U.S. Army announced the Excalibur has been named to the 2007 Top 10 Army greatest inventions of the year award.

"This award proves our innovative products change the face of battle," Jim Riley, Raytheon land combat product line vice president, said in a statement.

"Using the Excalibur projectile means the soldier is more effective and collateral damage is kept to an absolute minimum. Excalibur will provide organic precision with discrimination to the soldiers of every heavy, stryker and future combat systems brigade combat team."
