FREDERICKSBURG, Va., March 6 (UPI) -- Virginia-based McQ Inc. announced it has received four contracts from U.S. Defense Department agencies for counter-terrorism and defense support work.

McQ is a remote surveillance, security and environmental monitoring technologies developer. Officials say the contracts from the Army Small Business Innovation Research, the Office of Naval Research and the U.S. Army are worth more than $1.3 million.

"These contracts give McQ the opportunity to continue our mission of developing high quality sensors and surveillance technologies," John McQuiddy, McQ president, said in a statement. "We look forward to providing a new generation of sensor technology to our armed forces."

Officials say the contract with Army SBIR is a phase II award for the development of a mesh network sensor designed to handle being fired from a grenade launcher. The Office of Naval Research award is for McQ to develop sensor technologies for miniature disposable unattended ground sensors.

McQ was contracted for two Army phase I awards. For the first award, McQ will develop sensors to measure internal building dimensions that will aid in clearing a building. The other contract is for seismic signal processing development for "unattended ground sensors to demonstrate standoff detection of target personnel and rejection of nuisance or non-target sources," the release said.
