Comtech to support Army satellites

MELVILLE, N.Y., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command announced it has contracted Maryland-based Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp. for satellite network support.

Comtech Mobile Datacom is a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. The company specializes in packet data communication, location and messaging services.

Under the $2.7 million contract Comtech Mobile Datacom will expand the Army Communications Electronics Command's satellite network and deploy improved ground station equipment to support the Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below-Blue Force Tracking program.

Comtech Mobile Datacom has received an initial funding for the contract of $1.5 million.

"We are extremely pleased to receive this latest award for support of the Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below-Blue Force Tracking program," said Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications, in a statement.

"This order highlights the close working relationship between our engineering and network teams and the program office, and we believe this action further demonstrates the critical role our improved network technology plays within the Department of Defense’s logistics and war fighter communities.”

The real-time situational awareness and control system Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below-Blue Force Tracking program will receive improved beam processing HUB equipment to portions of its satellite network among other upgrades.
