KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, a former Afghan Taliban diplomat held at Guantanamo has written a book on his "humiliation" there.
Zaeef was the Taliban's former ambassador to Pakistan and its media spokesman at the time of the regime's overthrow by a U.S.-led invasion in November 2001.
The Gulf Daily reported Monday from the Afghan capital Kabul that Zaeef, who was released from Guantanamo Bay in September 2005, said that he hoped that his book would add to the mounting international pressure on the Bush administration to close the controversial facility.
Zaeef spent nearly four years in U.S. detention in Guantanamo before his release.
Zaeef told journalists at his home in Kabul, "I have been humiliated and tortured. By depicting the oppression that is going on in Guantanamo, I have tried to get the world's attention and hope to put pressure on America to close it down. My detention was totally illegal."
