Saudis building homes for Palestinians

GAZA, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Palestinian Authority officials announced Sunday that Saudi Arabia would finance the building of as many as 600 housing units in the West Bank and Gaza Strip for Palestinians whose homes have been destroyed by Israel military forces in the intifada, or uprising.

Marwan Abdel Hamid, director general of the Ministry of Housing, told reporters 400 units would be built in the West Bank and 200 in the Gaza Strip.

Sunday night, the Israeli army Sunday night destroyed 13 Palestinian-owned houses south of the Jewish settlement of Morag near the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, Palestinian security sources reported.

Incursions and shellings carried out by the Israeli army, including the destruction of homes of those who carry out armed attacks against Israelis, have left thousands of Palestinians homeless in recent years.

Abdel Hamid said that the housing project would be named after Saudi Prince Nayef Ben Abdel Aziz, chairman of the Saudi treasury committee to support the Palestinian uprising.
