MANILA, Philippines, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A blast Friday aboard a bus near Manila killed at least three people, according to local media reports.

The explosion occurred at 10 p.m. in the Manila suburb of Quezon City and the bus was destroyed, the Philippines Daily Inquirer newspaper Web site said.

Earlier Friday, a grenade went off in Manila's financial district and there were several bomb scares throughout the city, prompting the evacuation of many office buildings.

Friday's incidents came a day after twin bomb blasts in the southern city of Zamboanga killed six people. Police blamed the Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah militant groups. Both groups are believed linked to Osama bin Laden's al Qaida network.

Jemaah Islamiyah has been linked to last week's blasts in Bali, Indonesia that killed nearly 200 people.
