WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman System Corp. has been awarded an $18 million delivery order for work on U.S. Marine Corps Venom and Viper helicopters.

The firm-fixed-price delivery order against a previously issued basic ordering agreement covers procurement of tech refresh mission computers and trays in support of Lot 13 AH-1Z and UH-1Y aircraft for the Navy and the Pakistani government under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.

Work will performed in Maryland, Utah and California and is expected to be completed in December 2018.

Naval Air Systems Command is the contracting activity.

The AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter provides close air support, anti-armor, armed escort, armed/visual reconnaissance and fire support coordination capabilities, day or night and in adverse weather conditions.

The UH-1Y Venom is the most significant upgrade ever made to the H-1 helicopter.

At the upgrade's heart is a new four-bladed, all-composite and ballistically tolerant rotor system.

It also features upgraded engines and transmissions, an integrated digital cockpit featuring multi-function flat-panel displays, increased payload capabilities, and crash-worthy seating while providing increased load carrying, greater range and survivability.
