PARIS, June 20 (UPI) -- French defense group DCNS has signed a framework agreement with the country's ONERA aerospace research center to work together on various defense-related projects going forward, the companies announced Monday.

The agreement aims to develop synergies and propose joint research and development projects in the naval and maritime domains, DCNS said in a statement.

It would also include working together on future weapons systems, DCNS said.

The alliance comes after collaboration on Mistral-class ship bridge aerology, the L'Adroit patrol vessel's integrated mast and other projects.

The two companies will aim to conceptualize and develop French and European joint research projects in the areas of aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, materials, navigation, above-surface detection, drones and robotics, DCNS said.

The heads of both entities praised the partnership with its pairing of DCNS' naval and defense experience with ONERA's knowledge of weapons systems and aeronautic technology.
