ROME, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Finmeccanica's Airborne and Space Systems Division is to supply its SEER radar warning system for Indonesian Air Force multi-role fighters.

The contract for SEER was issued by Singapore-based Aptronics PTE Ltd., the prime contractor for upgrading Indonesia's Mk 209 Hawk light multi-role fighters.

Finmeccanica did not disclose the value of the contract or other details but said the award covers an initial batch of aircraft for current operations, with an option to provide additional systems.

SEER is a self-protection system which detects and identifies potential radar threats and alerts the pilot. A British variant, the SG200-D radar warning receiver, is used on the Royal Air Force's Puma and Chinook helicopters.

Finmeccanica supports the SEER system with a range of operational support services.
