U.K. Typhoons exercise with U.S. Raptors, French Rafales

WASHINGTON, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A squadron of U.K. Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons took part in a trilaterial exercise with U.S. Air Force F22 Raptors and French Air Force Rafales.

The exercise ran from December 2 to December 18 at the Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia. It marked the first TRILAT EX, which aims to give pilots from all three forces an opportunity to integrate their aircraft in a battlefield environment. The training scenarios included counter-air and counter-strike operations.

The exercise comes as the Typhoon undergoes its latest Phase 1 Enhancement, a program designed to upgrade the jet's swing role capabilities. The program came into effect with the Royal Air Force in 2015.

The Eurofigther Typhoon was manufactured by a team of European companies, including BAE Systems, Alenia Aermacchi, and Airbus Group. In addition to the Royal Air Force, the multirole fighter is also used by the German, Italian and Spanish air forces.
