Lockheed Martin tests stockpiled munitions

Stockpiled U.S. Army missiles have been tested tested by Lockheed Martin for their reliability.

DALLAS, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Stockpiled U.S. Army precision munitions have successfully completed reliability tests conducted by Lockheed Martin.

The tests of the Army Tactical Missile System and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Unitary munitions were conducted at White Sands Misssile Range in New Mexico using the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launcher system -- a multiple rocket launcher mounted on a truck frame.

HIMARS can launch ATACMS and GMLRS munitions to a distance of as much as 186 miles.

Lockheed Martin said the testing against a simulated target included eight GMLRS rockets conditioned at hot and ambient temperatures. The ATACMS Unitary missile was conditioned hot for the test.

Additional details of the testing were not immediately available.
