CLINTONVILLE, Wis., May 15 (UPI) -- FWD Seagrave, the oldest maker of firefighting apparatus in the United States, is rebuilding crash fire rescue vehicles for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The contract from the Department of Defense is worth $12 million and covers the rebuilding of 92 P-19A vehicles.

"Providing these Crash Fire Rescue vehicles for the U.S. Marine Corps gets us back to our roots working on heavy-duty military vehicles," said FWD Seagrave Chairman and Chief Executive Officer AJ Neiner. "Our team is committed to providing superior quality and top-notch service for the Marines and we expect this to be the beginning of a long-term relationship with the U.S. military."

FWD Seagrave said its work will involve disassembling each heavy duty truck down to its frame rails and then refurbishing or replacing its parts.

No information was provided as to how long the project would take to be completed.

The P-19A trucks came into service with the Marine Corps in 1984.

Seagrave was founded in 1881. FWD Corporation was established in 1909. The two merged in 1963.
