Sweden orders naval training system from CAE

A simulation-based naval warfare training system is to be provided to the Royal Swedish Navy by the end of next year by Canada's CAE.

MONTREAL, June 4 (UPI) -- CAE of Canada has been contracted by the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration to provide a comprehensive simulation-based naval warfare training system.

The monetary value of the award was not disclosed but CAE said the system will be delivered late next year.

"We are honored the Swedish Navy has selected CAE to provide a comprehensive Naval Warfare Training System," said Gene Colabatistto, group president, Defense and Security, CAE. "CAE is a skilled and experienced training systems integrator. Our strategy is to leverage our training systems integration capabilities across the air, land, sea and public safety market segments, and this contract is evidence our strategy is working as defense and security customers seek our expertise to implement simulation-based training programs."

The Naval Warfare Training System will include simulation software, hardware, war-gaming consoles, and instructor operator stations for instruction on naval tactics, procedures and doctrine. It will be used by all sea operative units and their personnel.

CAE said course specifics will cover sensor operations, command, control, communications and computers, and weapon systems.

The system will be provided as three classroom training systems, which will include student workstations and instructor positions.
