Austria orders Selex ES radar

ROME, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Selex ES reports it is to provide Austria's Ministry of Defense with an air defense radar system for operation by 2016.

The system is the RAT31DL/M system, which will complement Austria's fleet of existing radars provided by Selex ES during the 1980s.

The RAT31 DL/M DADR, the most recent addition to the RAT31 family of radar systems, has already been sold by the company to the Italian Air Force and to the German Air Force. It is designed for a rapid deployment and needs only a single vehicle to carry it.

The value of the contract was not disclosed. The company, however, said it contains an option for the supply of an additional system.

Under the contract, Selex ES will also supply logistics support for the system and a transportable, self-mounting tower.

Additional details on the system and the contract were not immediately available.
