Cobham supplying V-22 refueling probes

WIMBORNE, England, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Cobham plc of Britain reports it has received orders for refueling probes for use on Bell Boeing's V-22 tilt-rotor Osprey aircraft.

The refueling probes are in support of a second V-22 multiyear award from the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command, and follow a memorandum of understanding that was inked last year by Boeing and Cobham.

"The Cobham probe provides a proven aerial refueling solution which further extends the mission performance of the V-22," said Cobham Mission Equipment Vice President Iain Gibson. "We are committed to providing Boeing with our ongoing support for the program."

The probes will be fitted on future U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 models and U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command CV-22 models.

Cobham's refueling probe is a unique, patented telescoping mechanism that extends the probe tip beyond the Osprey's nose and fully retracts into the fuselage, providing the aircraft with improved aerodynamics and a reduced footprint.
