Northrop producing more threat simulation systems for Air Force

BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Joint threat emitters for electronic warfare training have been ordered from Northrop Grumman by the U.S. Air Force, the company announced Thursday.

The contract carries a value of $219 million and was issued for the service's joint threat emitter follow-on production program. The Air Force currently operates 18 of the electronic warfare threat simulators, which replicates surface-to-air missiles and anti-aircraft artillery threats in the training of fixed-wing and rotary aircraft crews.

"The JTE provides the best electronic warfare simulation capability available today," said Joe Downie, site director of Northrop Grumman's Buffalo-based Amherst Systems business unit. "We are looking forward to continuing our work with the U.S. Air Force to provide our warfighters with this premier training capability."

Northrop said that under the contract – which includes a $44 million order for emitters under a U.S. Foreign Military Sales program deal -- the company will deliver two variants of the threat emitter unit: the standard threat emitter unit and the wide band version. Mobile command-and-control units and fixed command-and-control units will also be delivered.
