AAR continues airlift services in Afghanistan

WOOD DALE, Ill., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. air services company AAR will continue airlift support in Afghanistan for U.S. forces under a contract renewal option from the U.S. Transportation Command.

The renewal option by U.S. Transportation Command, or USTRANSCOM, will be in force through the end of October 2014 and carries a value of $156 million.

"We are proud of our role as the largest provider of airlift for the U.S. government and its allies in Afghanistan and to serve as an integral part of our nation's logistics capability," said Randy J. Martinez, president and chief executive officer of AAR Airlift Group. "This renewal reflects the excellent work of our pilots and support teams and the confidence they have earned supporting USTRANSCOM and Department of Defense operations."

The company said it will use 10 rotor-wing aircraft from its fleet in moving people, cargo and mail for troops in the country.
