TSA to test OptoSecurity checkpoint detector systems

WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has ordered advanced software and hardware for uncovering liquid explosives and other threats.

The systems, which can be retrofitted into existing checkpoint X-ray detection devices, are from Optosecurity Solutions and will be tested at various TSA locations around the country.

"Optosecurity applauds TSA for its efforts to implement effective risk-based security solutions ... in the most efficient way," said Eric Bergeron, president and chief executive officer of Optosecurity. "We are confident that TSA will find in its evaluations that Optosecurity solutions can significantly contribute to those goals."

Optosecurity is providing its OptoScreener and eVelocity systems under the contract. OptoScreener retrofits into existing X-ray detection platforms to automatically detect liquid explosives, other liquid threats, bottles, firearms and firearm parts, and other threats.

EVelocity is a solution that allows airports to collect and integrate real-time operational data from multivendor X-ray machines. Analysis of the data is done using queuing services and image analysis of scanned items.

The number of OptoScreener and eVelocity systems to be supplied and the length of the testing period were not disclosed.
