WARSAW, Poland, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Poland's Ministry of Defense has ordered 307 additional Rosomak 8x8 multipurpose armored vehicles produced under license by Polish company WZM S.A
The value of the contract was not disclosed but WZM S.A. said the vehicles will be delivered by 2019.
The Rosomak, which the Polish Army calls the Wolverine, is the Polish version of the AMV by Finland's Patria. It weighs 49,000 pounds, can carry 11 soldiers (including crew), has an operational range of 500 miles and a speed of about 60 mph.
It comes in seven variants, and Poland's initial vehicles under the new contract will feature a 120mm mortar with open turret.
Waldemar Skrzypczak, a deputy minister in the Ministry of Defense and head of its armaments inspectorate, said Poland plans to modernize earlier versions of the Rosomak now in its Army fleet. The older models procured from Patria will be equipped with an anti-tank guided missile system.
