Irkut orders Curtiss-Wright flight recording system

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Engineering firm Curtiss-Wright Corp. has been contracted by Russia's Irkut Corp. for flight data recording systems.

The contract for the systems, to be used on the MC-21 commercial aircraft, is worth about $21 million with a potential of more than $50 million.

"We are pleased to have been selected by Irkut to provide our fully integrated flight data recorder technology on the MC-21 aircraft program," said Martin R. Benante, chairman and chief executive officer of Curtiss-Wright Corp. "As a leading provider of data-handling avionics systems, this program is the result of our successful efforts to increase our business in the Russian aviation market."

The system to be provided is the ISSKOR data recorder system, an integrated flight data acquisition, monitoring, processing and recording solution with dual-imaging multi-purpose flight recorders, integrated cockpit control unit, cockpit area camera, dual recorder independent power supplies, an integrated flight data acquisition unit, an antenna and an accelerometer.

The systems will be manufactured by a company facility in Britain, with deliveries set to begin in 2015.
