Navy taps Accenture for finance management

ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. Navy efforts to enhance its financial management capabilities are to be supported by Accenture Federal Services.

Two awards, worth a total of more than $30 million were awarded to the company by the Department of the Navy.

Under the first contract, Accenture will work with six commands and the U.S. Marine Corps to provide comprehensive audit readiness services. Work will include review of business processes, internal controls and related systems to support improved business operations at Naval Air Systems Command, Naval Sea Systems Command, the Navy's Assistant for Administration, Field Support Activity, Office of Naval Research, Naval Research Laboratory and the Marine Corps.

The term of the award is three years. It carries a value of $25.5 million.

The second contract -- for three years and valued at $5.37 million -- is a Financial Information Systems Control Audit Manual contract. Work under the award includes evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of information technology general computer controls and business process automated controls for the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning system.

"Ensuring that all internal financial controls provide accurate information will help the Navy meet all federal and Department of Defense guidelines toward auditability," said Vince Vlasho, who leads Accenture's work with the Navy.

"This is a critical initiative that assists Navy leaders by improving the quality and reliability of financial data and securing the effectiveness of their ERP systems."
