SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- General Dynamics C4 Systems will provide new secure radios for the U.S. Army's Nett Warrior program for integrated situational awareness and mission command.
The Nett Warrior radio is handheld, weighs less than 2 pounds and provides secure transmission using the Soldier Radio Waveform and access to government networks at the Secret and Unclassified-But-Sensitive levels.
The low-rate production order is for 2,052 radios, with deliveries to begin in the first quarter of next year. The order includes provisions for engineering support and related equipment and is worth as much as $11 million, General Dynamics said.
"By providing a lighter, smaller radio capable of two levels of security, Nett Warrior soldiers will have increased agility and significantly improved access to classified mission-critical information," said General Dynamics C4 Systems President Chris Marzilli. "That combination can help save American soldiers' lives."
The new radio is part of the family of handheld manpack Small Form radios used by the Army, providing mobile voice, video and data communications capabilities. General Dynamics, the prime contractor for the Army's HMS program, has so far delivered more than 26,000 HMS radios to the service.
