Oshkosh shows off vehicles

OSHKOSH, Wis., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A new all-terrain military vehicle for unconventional and reconnaissance missions has been unveiled in the United States by Oshkosh Defense.

The Special Purpose All-Terrain Vehicle was specifically designed for high-speed unconventional missions in urban or rugged terrain, features the latest Oshkosh Defense technologies and comes in multiple weight and protection configurations.

The Oshkosh vehicle was placed on display at Modern Day Marine 2012 in Quantico, Va., where the company is also displaying its Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle.

"We have developed a broad range of high-performance light vehicles to offer warfighters next-generation capabilities for future battlefields," said John Bryant, vice president and general manager of Joint and Marine Corps Programs for Oshkosh Defense.

"Our L-ATV and S-ATV platforms, coupled with an array of Oshkosh-developed HMMWV upgrade solutions, demonstrate exciting innovations. The off-road mobility, crew protection and reliability that are hallmarks of our heavy, medium and MRAP platforms have been leveraged in different ways across these light vehicles to meet a range of operational needs."

Oshkosh said it was contracted by the military in August to deliver 22 Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle prototypes for Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing and Development phase of a project for possible vehicles to replace Humvees.
