FALLS CHURCH, Va., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- J-85 engines used on U.S. Air Force training aircraft at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas will receive maintenance service from DynCorp International.
The competitively awarded, firm-fixed-price contract has an 11-month base period of performance with five, one-year options. If all options were exercised, the contract from the Air Force Air Education and Training Command would be worth $36 million.
"This contract further strengthens our relationship with the U.S. Air Force and more specifically the Air Education and Training Command," said Jim Myles, group vice president, Aviation, DynCorp International.
"We are proud to support AETC in aircraft maintenance, supply support and now engine overhauls and repairs."
The J-85 is a single-shaft turbojet engine manufactured by General Electric. The Air Force uses it on T-38 Talon trainer aircraft and others.
Pilot training programs at the air base include undergraduate pilot training, specialized undergraduate pilot training, Euro NATO joint jet pilot training, pilot instructor training and introduction to fighter fundamentals missions.
