More AESA radars for F-15Es

ST. LOUIS, July 23 (UPI) -- Boeing is to manufacture Active Electronically Scanned Array radar systems for the U.S. Air Force under a low-rate initial production 2 contract.

The 10 APG-82(V)1 AESA radar systems will be used on F-15E aircraft as part of the service's radar modernization program.

"This is a great step forward for the Radar Modernization Program," said Roger Besancenez, Boeing F-15 Program vice president. "With the F-15E RMP, Boeing is providing new technology and improved system reliability to ensure the Air Force has all the capability necessary to achieve total air-to-air and air-to-ground dominance well into the future."

Boeing had received authorization to produce six systems under LRIP 1 last September.

The RMP APG-82(V)1 AESA radar , which allows simultaneous operation of radar and electronic weapons systems, will replace the APG-70 Mechanically Scanned Array radar currently used on the aircraft.

AESA provides improved radar reliability and improved detection and tracking of enemy targets.
