Integrated bridge systems for patrol boats

NEW MALDEN, England, May 25 (UPI) -- A new class of patrol boat being built for the Swedish coast guard by an Estonian company will feature Northrop Grumman integrated bridge systems.

The system to be supplied by Northrop's Sperry Marine business, based in Britain, to Baltic Workboats AS is based on its VisionMaster FT technology, which integrates navigation and ship control functions in a secure and redundant Ethernet network.

Northrop Grumman said each boat will have three Sperry Marine TotalWatch multifunction workstations. Features include electronic chart display and information systems, navigational radars, GPS positioning, autopilot and steering control.

Northrop Grumman's sales and service representative in Sweden, CA Clase Marinelektronik AB, will provide technical support to the Swedish coast guard for the system.

"Our state-of-the-art navigation technology will provide optimum situational awareness for the ships' watch officers in carrying out their missions on these new patrol boats," said Hans Rasmussen, director of global business development, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.

Details on the value of the contract were not disclosed.
