Navy orders FLIR systems

PORTLAND, Ore., May 23 (UPI) -- A $17.9 million U.S. Navy delivery order for maritime imaging systems has been received by FLIR Systems Inc.

The Oregon company said the order for its SeaFLIR system was issued by the U.S. Navy Expeditionary Combat Command and that the systems were expected to be operated on patrol boats.

"This represents another strong win for us in the maritime space and builds on our excellent relationship with the U.S. Navy," said FLIR's president and chief executive officer, Earl Lewis. "Our capability to develop the most useful and highest performance imaging systems for extreme rugged conditions is unmatched."

FLIR Systems is a leading designer and manufacturer of sensor systems. Its SeaFLIR is used for search-and-rescue operations; vessel interdiction; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations; and for targeting applications.

Work on the contract will be conducted at a company facility in Massachusetts. Deliveries will begin later this year.

FLIR did not disclose the number of units it will produce for the Navy under the order.
