Australia contracts Harris support

MELBOURNE, Fla., March 30 (UPI) -- Australia's Department of Defense has contracted the Harris Corp. to provide field support for tactical radio systems purchased from the company.

The contract is worth about $15.2 million.

Harris, a U.S. company, recently opened an office in Australia for the Asia-Pacific region.

"Harris is committed to delivering best-in-class products and systems as well first-rate support to our military and public safety customers around the world," said Brendan O'Connell, president, International Business, Harris RF Communications.

"Our program management, engineering and customer service teams are the best in the business and they will ensure the smooth deployment and integration of our tactical radio systems.''

Australia has ordered both mounted and dismounted Falcon III AN/PRC152 (C) radios, which are multi-band and multi-mode units that provide line-of-sight and beyond line-of-sight voice communication and data transfer.

The systems are being delivered to the Australian military under the Joint Project 2072 Battlespace Communications program.

Under the contract, Harris will provide support services such as training, installation, maintenance, system integration and engineering.
