CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 15 (UPI) -- U.S.-produced biological detection systems are being provided to Japan's self-defense force by Chemring Detection Systems under a $9 million contract.
The system to be supplied is a variant of the U.S. military's Joint Biological Point Detection System, manufactured by Chemring, and which provides automatic detection and identification of airborne biological agents, triggering remote warning systems.
The systems will be used on the defense force's nuclear, biological and chemical reconnaissance vehicle.
"We have provided JBPDS to Japan for the last five years in support of achieving their Full Rate Production authorization," said CDS President Bill Gural. "This sale demonstrates the relevance of CDS products in the global threat detection market and we are honored to supply a solution for the JGSDF."
CDS said it has also been contracted to provide the Japanese defense force with technical manuals, training materials, and to conduct maintenance training.
The contract was issued by Marubeni Aerospace Corp. on behalf of Japan's self-defense force.
