Sikorsky expands in Asia

SINGAPORE, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Sikorsky plans to expand business operations in Asia and is opening an office in Malaysia to kick off the effort.

"ASEAN has always been an important market for Sikorsky and the aerospace industry at large," said Christophe Nurit, Sikorsky vice president, Sales, Asia. "Sikorsky aircraft have been serving ASEAN fleets since the 1960s, providing a breadth of military and commercial mission support. Our products carry a legacy of safety and reliability that are a solid foundation on which to further grow our relationships in Southeast Asia."

ASEAN is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore Thailand and Vietnam.

Brunei last year contracted Sikorsky Aircraft for a dozen S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

Sikorsky Aircraft representatives have been visiting countries of the region since December to promote its helicopters and helicopter support services.

"Malaysia is centrally located in ASEAN, with one of the strongest aerospace markets in region," said Linda Scott, general manager for the Southeast Asia office. "Opening an office in Malaysia allows Sikorsky to be best located to support all of its Southeast Asia customers and we look forward to the new opportunities to grow our relationships in the region."
