CARTAGENA, Spain, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- MTU Friedrichshafen, a German maker of propulsion systems, and Spanish shipbuilder Navantia have agreed to continue their partnership.
The companies said they have signed a strategic, long-term agreement that builds upon a successful 40-year relationship.
Under the agreement the two companies will build a common training center in Cartagena, Spain, where employees of both companies will be trained in engine maintenance and service.
The companies' service dealers will also receive training at the facility.
The two companies also agreed to continue licensing agreements for MTU's 396, 956 and 1163 engines and jointly offer through-life support services to customers.
MTU is a member of the Tognum Group. Navantia, Europe's fifth-largest shipbuilder, manufactures a variety of vessels for customers worldwide -- from frigates to patrol boats. It's offshore patrol boats are used by both the Spanish navy and Venezuelan navy and are powered by MTU products, including engines and standby power generation units.
