ITT Exelis touts F-16 EW product

CLIFTON, N.J., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- An advanced pod-mounted electronic warfare system for F-16 fighters flown by non-U.S. military forces has been successfully tested against various RF threats.

ITT Exelis said testing verified the effectiveness of its Airborne Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare System, which can also be mounted within the aircraft.

"This most recent exercise continues AIDEWS' long track record of delivery and performance success," said Rich Sorelle, vice president and general manager of Exelis Electronic Systems' integrated electronic warfare systems business.

"Since AIDEWS is based on modular, scalable EW technology and has a large installed base, allied forces will have lower maintenance and upgrade costs."

ITT Exelis said AIDEWS is based on ALQ-211 electronic warfare systems and provides protection against radar-based threats, including surface-to-air and air-to-air weapons. Foreign operators of the F-16 have ordered more than 180 of the systems.

The number of systems already delivered and in use by foreign militaries is 140.

Regular system upgrades to the AIDEWS ensures optimal capability.
