VIENNA, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The Swiss army has ordered 70 more DURO armored personnel carriers for its Global Mobility Task Force from General Dynamics European Land Systems.

The APCs, for which approval was given in 2010 by the Swiss Armament Procurement Program, will be manufactured at the company's facility in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland, and delivered in the fall of 2013.

The DURO is a wheeled vehicle that can carry as many as 11 soldiers. General Dynamics previously delivered 220 DURO GMTF vehicles -- approved under the same program in 2008 -- to the Swiss army.

The GMTF DURO -- 22.6 feet long – features a modular protection system. It has a top speed of 60 mph and can manage gradients of as much as 60 percent, the company said. The vehicles are powered by a 245 hp Cummins turbocharged diesel engine.
